Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of a swim team? The main purpose of a swim team is to provide an exceptional fitness opportunity for our children and help them to become better swimmers. Other benefits include a sense of pride in community, learning to work as a team while also having the benefits of an individual sport, and a great social outlet for the kids in the summer.
What is the minimum requirement to join the team? Ages 4-18 are welcome as long as he/she can swim at least 12.5 yards unassisted (1/2 length of the pool).
Do I have to be a Stonebrier resident to join the team? No, but returning swimmers and resident registration will be first and then we will fill our roster with non-residents based on the needs of the team. New non-residents need to get a registration code from Coach Debbie or through stonebrierswimteam@hotmail.com.
How many swimmers will be on the team? Approximately 100
How many coaches will there be? There is one head coach (Coach Debbie Carey), one assistant coach (Pending), and 5-7 additional coaches in training.
What is included in my fee? All coaching for practices, entry fees for the 5 dual meets, t-shirt, swim cap, and trophy.
How often do I have to practice? Practices are optional. We encourage the swimmers to attend as many practices as possible to really improve swimming skills and fitness.
Is a team suit required? Yes, at the meets.
Will my child swim at every meet? Yes. Swimmers are allowed to swim up to 2 individual and 2 relays per meet per NASA guidelines.
Which swim league are we joining? NASA – North Atlanta Swimming Association. You must register online as well as register with Stonebrier. See registration packet for details.
Why are parents required to volunteer? It takes at least 60 parents to run one swim meet therefore parental involvement is required for the team to function. The swim league requires a minimum number of volunteers per meet not counting the other parents working in the background. We know this is a significant time commitment but feel it is worth it for the kids. see Volunteer Form.
