Dear Stingrays,
Congratulations on another great season!  Our awards banquet is set for August 21st.  Please contact Ricki Shaw for sign up if you haven't already.  If your swimmer is 11 and up and DOES want a trophy (instead of a certificate) please email Beth Jones at pbjfamily@gmail.com and let her know.  All 10 and under swimmers automatically get trophies.  There is no extra charge for trophies.  All awards from Ga Tech and end of season will be in the mailboxes at the banquet. Also, if your child goes by a different name than on the roster please email the preferred name for his/her trophy or award to Beth Jones.
Thanks so much and have a super summer!

Saturday June 26,

Dear Stingrays,
Congratulations on another undefeated season and 2nd place in the meet today for Session 3!!!!  We have more trophies for the clubhouse!  Check the website, www.atlantaswimming.com,  AFTER 9 pm tonight to see if your swimmer made it into the finals tomorrow.  Warm ups are at Tech tomorrow for first session at 12:05 and for second session at 4:05. We again would like thank all our hard-working parents for your dedication to the team this season.  We especially would like to thank those who agreed to work this weekend at Tech.  We would also like to thank our fabulous coaches!
GO STINGRAYS!!!

Thursday June 24,

Updated Volunteer Sheet for tonight.
Thanks to all our hard-working parents!
Go Stingrays!

Thursday June 24,

Dear Team,

Below are the details for the Ga Tech Championship meet this weekend.  Susan McKnight, our volunteer coordinator,  may be contacting you to help this weekend.  To be fair to all, if you work at Tech this year please remind us on your volunteer form next year that you worked this year and we will try not to ask you next year.  However, we MUST have all positions filled by Friday or we CANNOT swim.  NASA literally will NOT start the meet without our workers in place.  We do not want to be embarrassed by holding up the meet.  We must have 2 girl timers and 2 boy timers for Lane 8 in each pool on Saturday and a runner for each session on Sunday.  You can split your position with someone else and each do a half shift if desired. Except for these workers there are otherwise NO parents on deck except during relays.  THANKS SO MUCH TO: Alan Moss, Lisa Burt, and Felipe Den Brok who have already volunteered to work this weekend. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE COACH DEBBIE AND I CALL AND BEG FOR WORKERS. Contact Susan McKnight today if you are willing to help at sgminteriors@bellsouth.net. We will also need at least 8 relay parents and we will be asking for some of you to help with relays as well.  Please help with your child's relay if we ask you.  We do not want anyone missing their relay.  Some of us have seen it happen and it's a huge disappointment for all.  We KNOW how labor intensive swim team is for the parents....many of us are doing behind the scenes work that is anywhere from 5-20 hours per week...not counting shifts...only 4 more days!  Remember, it's about the kids.  They have worked so hard in the pool this season and deserve a great championship meet.  Thanks again to all of you for working this season.  We have a great team because of all of our great families.  We plan on a fun meet tonight at Wellington and a celebration at Bruster's afterwards.  Please continue to check your email this summer for banquet details which will be held on the 21st of August. Finally, if a coach or coach-in-training has really made a difference for your swimmer this season please thank them!  We are so lucky to have such a great coaching staff.  Please congratulate them on a job well done!

1.  Practice is at the regular times on Friday morning.  ADDITIONAL START PRACTICE FRIDAY NIGHT AT SWIM ATLANTA 6:15-6:45 for all Championship swimmers.
2.  Warm-ups for SATURDAY at STONEBRIER POOL  6:30 AM.  We will then go straight to Ga Tech.  Meet starts at 9 am Saturday.
3.  STONEBRIER STINGRAY SWIMMERS MUST ALL SIT IN SECTION 208.  NO EXCEPTIONS. WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ROPE OFF ANY AREA SO GET THERE ASAP AFTER WARM-UP. SEE YOUR MAP (OR THE ONE ONLINE) FOR DETAILS AND FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE POOL LAYOUT.  Parents may sit in any spectator seating desired.
4.  Parents and coaches will help with relays but you are responsible for getting your swimmer to the appropriate bullpen 6 events prior to his/her race.  There will NOT be workers from our team doing this.  All swimmers on a relay must be in section 208 so we can find them.  PLEASE do not make us look for your swimmer and risk missing a relay.  To find out if your swimmer is on a relay check the PSYC sheet online or ask Coach Debbie.
5.   Go online to www.atlantaswimming.com/NASChampionships.asp for all Championship details, map, and PSYC sheet.  Confirm your swimmer's entries for Saturday.  We are session 3.
6.   Check your swimmer's results PRIOR to leaving Saturday.  They will be posted in the hall.  If you have any issues (DQ etc) you must address with Coach Debbie or Coach Tommy prior to leaving the meet Saturday or it is too late for inquiry.
7.   Check www.atlantaswimming.com Saturday night to see if your swimmer or relay has advanced to finals on Sunday.
8.   Sunday warm-ups are AT TECH 12:05-12:25 for 10 and under swimmers (session 1) and 4:05-4:25 for 11 and up (session 2).
9.   Parking at Tech is $5.
10.  The Saturday meet starts at 9 am and will be over by 12:30.
11.  As always, all swimmers need to wear their Stingray suit and cap.  Caps are required per Coach Debbie.  And parents, don't forget to wear your Stingray shirts and hats as well!
12.  IF YOUR SWIMMER BECOMES ILL OR CANNOT SWIM FOR ANY REASON YOU MUST CONTACT COACH DEBBIE IMMEDIATELY.  IF 1 SWIMMER PULLS OUT THAT POTENTIALLY SCRATCHES A CHAMPIONSHIP RELAY FOR 3 OTHER SWIMMERS.  There is a fee for withdrawing from the meet once entered.

GO STINGRAYS!!!!

Wednesday June 23,

Stingrays,
Below is an email from Wellington with directions and a menu is attached fyi.  Be at the pool at 4:30 as usual. Our team will provide heat sheets in your mailbox on Thursday, 1 per family.  Note that the directions include a road collapse so there is only one way into the pool. Bring canned foods for charity should you desire to donate.  Don't forget team gathering at Bruster's in Suwanee after the meet to celebrate our awesome season!
GO STINGRAYS!!!

Subject: Thursday's Swim Meet At Wellington

I would like to welcome you to our pool for this Thursday's swim meet.

Our pool address is 11415 Crossington Road, Johns Creek 30005. There is a map on the league website if needed. The street where you enter our neighborhood dead ends into the pool and one parking lot. This is the only entrance for now. We've had the road collapse connecting the Abbotts Bridge Road entrance to our amenities, so there is no access to the pool from that side.

Your bull pen area is located around the kiddie pool. If more room is necessary, feel free to use the grassy area right outside the gate. Please do not use the basketball court as part of you bull pen. We need to have the court available for any residents wanting to play basketball. There is another parking lot on this side of the pool. Directions are as follows:

Enter neighborhood onto Crossington Rd, 3rd left (at PARK sign) onto Barrington Ln, right onto Bentham Ct,  2nd right onto Treyford Ct, pool at the end on right.

We only have a few shade umbrellas, so you might want to bring some extras.

I have attached a menu, so your parents know what we have available for concessions. If you could let me know approximately how many swimmers you have, I will give a heads up to our concessions workers.

I would also like to mention that we will be collecting cans of food for charity if anyone on your team would like to bring a can or two to help the NFCC (North Fulton Community Charities.)

Monday June 21,

Dear Team,

Coach Debbie will be holding try-outs for Swim Atlanta team (starting in August) this Thursday during practice.  If you are interested in swimming year-round please see Coach Debbie on Thursday morning during relay practice to be assigned to a Swim Atlanta group.  There IS still practice for the whole team Thursday 8:30 am as usual.

Coach Debbie has added START PRACTICE for all swimmers going to Tech on Friday night from 6:15-6:45 at Swim Atlanta.  This will help practice going off the blocks since we don't have blocks at our home pool.  This is in addition to Friday morning practice at Stonebrier.

Saturday morning warm-up is at 6:30 AM at Stonebrier prior to us going to Tech for Championship Meet.

Finally, the swimmers will be in the STANDS, not on deck this year at Georgia Tech.  We will let you know the exact location on Friday. We will have some parents to help with relays but for all individual events you must send your swimmer down to the bullpen at least 6 events prior to his/her race.  We will not have workers to do this.  We are required to provide a few timers and Susan McKnight will be contacting you to help.  Please do so if you can.

Remember whole team to Bruster's on Thursday night after our last dual meet to celebrate our awesome season!

Thanks again to all our parents for all your hard work and dedication to the team.

GO STINGRAYS!!!!!

Friday June 18,

Stingrays,

Congratulations on another win!!!! We had to request more time improvement ribbons because we used them all....great job!!!!

Don't forget the deadline for entries to Georgia Tech/Championship Meet is this Saturday at practice.  NO EXCEPTIONS!!!  Your swimmer may choose up to 2 individual events. Put your form in the Stingray mailbox.  Coach Debbie will put together the relays late next week.  We will let you know if your swimmer is on a relay.  We will need a few timers (and we have a few names of you that have already offered to time at Tech.....thanks!!!) and relay parent helpers.  The team will be sitting in the stands this year (in the past the swimmers have been down on the deck).  This means all parents are responsible for sending their own kids down to the bullpen AT LEAST 6 races early.  We will be assigned a section so the team can sit together and we will let you know where that is asap.  Please know where your kids are and be responsible for sending them down in plenty of time.  We hate for any swimmer to miss a race!  See your handout for map and pool information.  If you need another handout please contact Kris Kester.

Thanks again so much to all our hard-working parents.  The meets are going great!  Thanks for your support and thanks for cheering on all the swimmers.  We have received multiple compliments about the great sportsmanship our team shows....keep it up!  We are so proud of all of our Stingrays!

Schedule for the next week is regular practice every day except Sunday and warm-ups prior to Tech at Stonebrier Saturday am, time TBA.

Please join the entire team in celebrating another great season after our last dual meet at Wellington,  next Thursday night,  at Bruster's in Suwanee.

Banquet information will be forthcoming but save the date:  Saturday, August 21st.

GO STINGRAYS!!!!

Sunday June 13,

Stingrays,

Way to go on another win at Sugar Mill and congrats to all swimmers who swam at Kids for Kids yesterday.

This week we swim Seven Oaks...our toughest competition last year!  It should be a fun and exciting meet.  Be there at 4:30 as usual.  Here is the revised volunteer schedule for this Thursday.  If you have any questions or trades please email Susan McKnight at sgminteriors@bellsouth.net asap.

Championship meet info is in your box and due this week.  Fill out and put in Stingrays or Kester box asap.  Fees are already covered.  Thanks to Kris Kester for taking care of these entries!

GO STINGRAYS!!

Sunday June 13,

Dear All,
This a letter from our sponsorship coordinator, Howard Fuller.  Please take time to read and thank our sponsors.  In these economic times we really appreciate those who have chosen to support our swim team.  The Stingrays are close to completing their third season and are still undefeated!! Please encourage friends and residents to visit our website at www.stonebrierstingrays.com for updates.
Thanks,
The Stingray Board

Monday June 7,

Last Thursday, Dana Culberson picked up a yellow Stonebrier hoodie that had been left at the Medlock Bridge meet.  If this belongs to your child, please email to claim.  Swimmers, please put your names in any spiritwear that you have.  It all looks alike and we have no way to return it to you if you name is not in the label.

Thanks.

Sunday June 6,

Dear Stingrays,

Sorry for the long email but hotmail limits us so here is the weekly update below:

Another AWESOME WIN last week!  Great job to all swimmers!  We love watching the kids shake hands and be gracious winners and losers.  They are learning to be good competitors as well as great swimmers!

Remember, TEAM PHOTO tomorrow at 9:15. All swimmers are to wear Stingray suit, no practice suits please.  Rain date is Wednesday.  Please fill out your order form in advance and attach payment.  Payment is required in advance.  We have a new photographer and expect photos to go quickly and smoothly tomorrow. Even if you are NOT going to order photos please have your swimmer at the pool at 9:15 to be included in the team photo.  Any photo questions should be directed to Debbie Kohne.

Clarification:  Stonebrier team suit is REQUIRED for all swimmers at the meets and CAPS are required for ALL swimmers at the meet per Coach Debbie.  Stingray cap or yellow or black cap is allowed. If you registered late you can get a suit through Kastaway Swim Wear in Lawrenceville or wear plain black suit for the rest of the season.

The team will go to Bruster's in Suwanee after the meet this Thursday for ice cream.  Please join us!!!

Kids for Kids meet is this Saturday.  If you haven't signed up we may be able to add you before 10 am tomorrow.  After that it will be too late.  See Kris Kester for any questions about that meet.

We are going to need at least 1 more computer worker for next summer.  It is an indoor, air-conditioned job.  Please drop in to visit Toni Lanier and Courtney Wacker at the computer station during the upcoming meets and see if it is something you would like to do.  The training is easy and you would be able to do computer instead of timing/staging/bullpen/etc next summer.  Contact us at this email if you are interested.

We have been assigned to Saturday, June 26th for our ASA divisional championship preliminary meet at Georgia Tech from 9 am - 12:30 pm.  Remember ALL swimmers are welcome at the meet on Saturday.  Relays are put together by Coach Debbie by times.  All swimmers may swim up to 2 individual races.  Your fee is included in registration.  We will be sending you more information about this meet in the upcoming weeks.  We will need some timers and have a list of those who have not been given 4 shifts or already volunteered to work at Tech and we will contact you.  We will also need some help on deck particularly with relays.  Sunday meet will be broken down by age and is the finals. Top times are invited back to swim on Sunday.

Remember we want this to be a fun experience for the kids while they are getting some exercise and becoming better swimmers.  They are also able to learn how to be a team and interact with other age groups.  If you have ANY questions we are here for you.  Email us at stonebrierswimteam@hotmail.com.  All coaching questions should go to Coach Debbie but we are happy to help if you have logistic or rule questions or team management questions. Thanks for your support and for remembering we are all volunteers!

Finally, we are going to attempt to email heat sheets to you Wednesday night or Thursday morning.  Check your email and print off the number of heat sheets you want.  This saves the team money and time.  You also won't have to buy a heat sheet.  Deck workers will be given an updated sheet at the meet since last minute changes are on that. Remember, there will be last minute changes (someone will get sick, be unavailable, etc.) So, your sheet will be about 95% or more accurate. Remember that 1 swimmer out changes up to 6 relays so the FINAL relays will be on the notecards held by Coach Tommy or Debbie Kohne (girls) / Shannon Cole (boys) at the meet. Please be understanding if your child is changed due to unforeseen events.   Let us know if you have any questions.  Our goal is to have as many relays go as possible every week and for all swimmers to have a chance at swimming a relay. PLEASE email Coach Debbie if your swimmer's meet availability changes asap.  This MUST be done in writing.

Thanks again to all our hard-working parents!!! We couldn't run the meets without you.  Thanks to those of you working extra and stepping up when we are short workers. We REALLY appreciate it!  Remember to email Susan McKnight at sgminteriors@bellsouth.net if you are changing shifts with someone.  Attached is this week's schedule at Sugar Mill.

GO STINGRAYS!!

Wednesday June 2,

Hi All,

In your mailboxes, you will find the 2010 Kids for Kids Swim Meet registration form.  This meet is for all swim teams in Atlanta and the proceeds go to the Chrildren's Healthcare of Atlanta.  This is your chance to compete against people you will not usually see in dual meets.  It is an optional meet.  There are awards for 1-20th place.  You will recieve a t-shirt with your entry!

The date is June 12th at MaristSchool in Dunwoody.  Swimmers can swim 2 individual events and 2 relays. Keep in mind that if you have other plans that day and won't be able to stay for the entire meet, you could sign up for Back and Free in the morning or Butterfly and Breast in the afternoon.

So check your mailbox for the entry form and return it to the Kester's mail folder by June 4th.

If you have any questions, please email Kris at kriskester@charter.net or call at 404-822-8021.

The fee is $25 and please keep in mind that this is charitable event and goes to a wonderful cause.  Please sign up if you can.

Thanks.

By the way, thanks Kris taking on this event and for updating our pool message board for the season.  It looks great.

Tuesday June 1,

Dear Stingrays,

What a great win on Thursday night!  The team is looking awesome!  Coach Debbie needs everyone on time to practice so they don't miss instruction.  Please do your best!  IF YOUR SWIMMER HAS A MEET AVAILABILITY CHANGE PLEASE EMAIL COACH DEBBIE, NOT THIS EMAIL, ASAP as the line up is done on Sundays and 1 swimmer out changes more than 6 events.  The sooner we know the better.  Coach Debbie's email is debcareyswims@aol.com

Below please find email from Lori about last chance to order spirit wear for this season and price sheet!  Email her at lorivm@gmail.com if you want to order.  We will not place any orders after next Monday, June 7th.  Thanks so much!

Team photos are next Monday, June 7th at 9:15 for ENTIRE TEAM.  Please be there for photo even if you don't plan to order so we can get a good team pic.  The practice schedule will be at 8:30, team photo at 9:15, then practice groups continue.  Individual photos can be done as well.  If you want  photos with your child's hair dry please don't swim him/her until after the team photo.  THIS IS A NEW PHOTOGRAPHER FROM LAST YEAR SO WE DO NOT PLAN TO HAVE THE SAME ORGANIZATIONAL ISSUES.  See your mailbox for details and email later this week.

Our meet this week is at Medlock Bridge.  Be at Medlock Bridge at 4:30 to check in- rain or shine.  See website for location details.  They will have food for purchase.  We can bring coolers and some water will be available donated by Kroger for the swimmers.  If it is storming we will decide what to do about the meet.  If it is just raining without thunder and lightning we will try to swim if there is ability to write.  If it is raining too much we will either delay or reschedule.  Let's hope for the awesome weather we had last week and swim on Thursday as planned!

Attached is the work schedule for this week.  There are also multiple extra copies in yellow at the pool.  Check in with Susan McKnight if you are working at 4:30 for instructions and name tag.  If you have any questions about your job please ask!!!  Finally, please return name tags to Susan McKnight or place in our plastic team bin for reuse.  Thanks so much.  Remember you must find a replacement if you cannot work your shift.

GO STINGRAYS!!!!

Wednesday May 26,

Dear Stingrays,

Yes our first meet is tomorrow and school is out for summer!!!!!!  The kids look good in the pool already and we are looking forward to a great meet at Sugarloaf.  Please remember- no coolers allowed.  Bring money for food, beverages, and adult drinks per the club at Sugarloaf.

Relay practice tomorrow morning for entire team from 8:30-9:30.  If your swimmer is not there we will see you at 4:30 at Sugarloaf.  If your swimmer is sick and can't make it to the meet please email COACH DEBBIE (NOT THIS EMAIL) at debcareyswims@aol.com ASAP.   1 swimmer out changes 4-6 events including relays so please let her know of any emergency asap.  This email won't be checked prior to the meet so send swimmer changes to Coach Debbie.

If you have a cap from last year please bring it.  We are short about 12 caps this year as we had more registrations than we anticipated....which is a good thing!  We will order more caps but please share with each other and bring old caps to share if you have one.  T-shirts will be passed out (and suits if you haven't picked up) tomorrow at 8:30 practice at the pool.  We will also bring to the meet and your swimmer can change there if needed-but come in another suit just in case yours isn't in.  Thanks again so much to Lori Van Matre for her hard work on attire!!!!!

BE AT SUGARLOAF POOL AT 4:30 PM FOR WARM-UPS AND CHECKING IN FOR FIRST HALF VOLUNTEER POSITIONS. SECOND HALF WORKERS CAN CHECK IN AT 5 PM.  Attached is the schedule for workers tomorrow.  There are also yellow hard copies of all volunteer schedules at the pool.  IF YOU CANNOT WORK TOMORROW AND YOU ARE ON SCHEDULE YOU MUST FIND A REPLACEMENT AND EMAIL TO SUSAN MCKNIGHT AT sgminteriors@bellsouth.net.  Thanks so much!

If you are working tomorrow and don't understand your job please see Susan McKnight, Shannon Cole or Debbie Kohne before the meet and we will be glad to help you.  If you are a timer, please check in with Susan and then get your stopwatch from Jenny Wesselmann.

For all the new swimmers don't forget extra towels, sunscreen, team shirt, goggles and sharpies to draw on each other.  Also, Sugarloaf typically pours red food coloring in the pool to simulate shark blood.  Please tell your young swimmers in advance so they won't be scared....just in case they do this tomorrow.

Don't forget practice Friday and Saturday but off on Monday.  Check your mailboxes regularly, especially Fridays and Saturdays after the meets for ribbons!!!

Looking forward to a great meet!

GO STINGRAYS!!!!!!!!

Looking forward to a great first meet this Thursday!!!  Again, sorry for the rule about coolers for this meet but that is per the Sugarloaf Club.  They will have food, drinks and adult beverages for sale per team rep.  You can bring in bags just not coolers.  Thanks for your understanding!

GO STINGRAYS!!!!!

Saturday May 22,

Dear Stingrays,

Attached please find the Volunteer schedule for all meets except Tech.  We will work on Tech as it gets closer.  You will also receive a hard copy of this tomorrow in your mailbox at practice. Please understand it took over 8 hours to put this schedule together and we are volunteers.  Thanks again to Susan McKnight for her hard work!!  Our first priority was coverage of the meets.  We have 62 families, 95 swimmers,  and need about 30 parent workers per meet.  We did our best to be fair and honor as many requests as possible.  If you see any errors or duplicates please let us know.  Please try and remember no family has more than 5 shifts and most have 4.  We thank you in advance as we could not run this team without the parent workers!!!  We all realize swim team is labor intensive for parents, but it is great exercise for the kids and they are all going to improve so much again this season! The kids also enjoy a sense of pride watching their parents be involved.  If you need to make a trade we will have a roster with contact info at the pool.  Email all trades to Susan McKnight, volunteer coordinator, at sgminteriors@bellsouth.net.

We will answer any questions you have at the parent meeting tomorrow at 5.  Swim practice at Stonebrier starts at 4.

Thanks again for your support and for making this such a great team!

GO STINGRAYS!!!!

Friday May 21,

Dear Parents,

We are going to have a brief parent meeting at 5 pm after practice on Sunday at the pool.  Please do your best to attend, even if your swimmer is not practicing on Sunday.  We especially would like to see all new parents.  Coach Debbie will answer any coaching questions, meet seeding questions, relays, etc and we will also hand out the volunteer schedule so all will have personal copy for all meets.  We can also help anyone who is new to team and doesn't understand his/her job.  Please try your best to make it at 5 on Sunday. Practice is from 4-5.

GO STINGRAYS!!!

Thursday May 20,

GO STINGRAYS!!!!

Monday May 17,

Dear Stingrays,

Please check the website often.  We are updating it throughout the season.  Below please find some pre-season updates:

1.  If you have not done so, download the meet availability form and email it to Coach Debbie at debcareyswims@aol.com  (it is on the website)  It is one form per swimmer.  If Coach Debbie doesn't receive it by the end of this week your swimmer may not be seeded at Sugarloaf meet so PLEASE get it in asap!

2.  Next Sunday's practice is at STONEBRIER from 4-5 pm.  THERE ARE NO MORE SWIM ATLANTA PRACTICES.  The gate code for the season has been emailed to you.  Please be very careful as the gate only lets one car in at a time.  You may have to wait and re-enter should a resident slip through. Both gates use the same code.  Stonebrier is not responsible for vehicle damage so please be very careful coming through the gates.

3.  The final touches are being made to the Volunteer Schedule for the meets and should be out by the end of the week in case you need to trade before the first meet.  We thank you in advance for your understanding as we first had to cover all meets and then took in consideration your job requests.  The schedule took us over 6 hours to do so please be kind and remember we are all volunteers and doing this for the kids.  All families have 4-5 shifts (a shift is 1/2 of a meet) but no more than 5.  Thanks again so much for all your hard work which makes this team possible.  Thanks to Susan McKnight for her hard work as the volunteer coordinator!  Watch for her email later this week.  If you have questions about your job description feel free to email us for details...especially if you are new to the team.  Of course the descriptions are also on the website.  For clarification the BULLPEN is the holding area where the kids play and hang out and wait, the STAGING area is the chairs behind the blocks, the DECK MANAGER is in charge of the staging area and is the last stop putting the correct kids on the blocks and holding up the meet if necessary.  The master recorder helps collect paperwork.  The rest are pretty self-explanatory.  Again, let us know if you have questions about your assigned job.

4.  Swim caps and suits have arrived and will be passed out at practices next week prior to the first meet.  If you will not be at practice before the first meet we will have your suits and caps at the meet and you can change there.  We hope to have t-shirts before the first meet too!  Thanks to Lori Van Matre our attire coodinator!

5.  Check the meet schedule on the website and please consider the Kids For Kids Charity meet at Marist if you are available that weekend.  This meet raises funds particularly for children with cancer that are treated locally at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.  Please support this effort if you can.

6.  Thanks again to our many sponsors this year!  Please look for their names on our banner and website.  Please thank them and frequent their businesses as they have continued to support the team in these tough economic times.

GO STINGRAYS!!!!

Tuesday May 11,

Dear Stingrays,

Our season is fast approaching!  We will still be at SwimAtlanta this Sunday from 4-5 for practice.  A gate code for Stonebrier will be provided prior to practice starting at our home pool.  Please remember VOLUNTEER REQUESTS ARE DUE TOMORROW!  Please be as flexible as possible with multiple job options.  Once we make the schedule you will need to change with another family so please send in your requests to Susan McKnight.  The schedule will be done this weekend.  Also, Coach Debbie needs the meet availability forms to her asap so she can start seeding the first meet on May 27 at Sugarloaf.  If you do not submit meet availability,  Coach Debbie may not place your swimmer in a scoring heat or relay since she cannot be sure if you are available at the meet or out of town-so please email this to her. Our first meet is the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend, so we know some families will be out of town.

Let us know if you have any questions.  If you have not done so please submit payment.  We have to provide proof of payment to the league and must have prior to the season starting.  If you have done so, thanks!!! We have over 90 swimmers so far and are looking forward to a great season!

Again our dual meets are: May 27, June 3, June 10, June 17, June 24 and Ga Tech June 26 and 27.  See website for details.

Sugarloaf is excited to host us on May 27th!  They are planning a fun meet where many of the swimmers know each other. Again, no coolers at this meet.  Bring money for food, drinks, adult beverages, goodies, etc.  It should be a great way to kick off the season and the start of summer!

GO STINGRAYS!!!

Thursday April 29,

Dear Stingrays,

Remember if you have not done so you must register on NASA website before May 1 or you will be charged late fees.  See website for details.  Attached please find the meet availability form for 2010 and the volunteer availability form.  Please read instructions below very carefully.  Let us know if you have any questions.

The 2 forms are NOT related to each other.  Meaning, your swimmer may well be able to swim a night you cannot work.  We understand that.  The meet availability is one form PER SWIMMER and is the form Coach Debbie uses to seed the meets weekly.  If you do not submit this form she will not put your swimmer in a scoring heat or relay as she must know who can swim at each meet.  Again, THIS FORM GOES DIRECTLY TO COACH DEBBIE.  You may give to her at any pre-season practice or mail to our PO Bx and we will get it to her. Preferably, you may also email the form to her at debcareyswims@aol.com.  Coach Debbie wants ALL changes to meet availability in writing to her by email only.  She doesn't want to risk missing a phone message.  This form is vital for the success of the team as it takes a lot of work to seed the meets.  Please fill out this form and email it to Coach Debbie at debcareyswims@aol.com as soon as possible.

The volunteer availability form is the form (ONE PER FAMILY) needed to know when and where you prefer to work your shifts.  Please fill out page 3 (there are 4 total pages) and email or mail it to Susan McKnight per the instructions.  This year we DO need help at Georgia Tech on Saturday so we are going to count that meet as a shift.  The times and locations are on the meet availability form. We will try our best to only schedule 4 shifts/family.  If you are volunteering on deck for Georgia Tech please put the name and age of your swimmer on the sheet so we know what time your shift would be. DEADLINE FOR VOLUNTEER IS WEDNESDAY, MAY 12, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Our first meet is at Sugarloaf.  We are looking forward to a fun meet where many of the swimmers on both teams know each other well!  It should be a great meet with some good competition!  Sugarloaf has already notified us that there are no outside coolers allowed at their pool.  We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Finally, in regards to your volunteer requests a few things to keep in mind:

If you have young children, we highly suggest you have another adult at the meets to help oversee your swimmer on the nights you work.  Or, ask another team parent to help be sure your swimmer doesn't miss any of his/her races and know his/her location through the night.  This is to help not miss races and for the safety of the younger swimmers.  If you are not working a meet PLEASE be aware of the flow of the meet and make sure you see your swimmer near the blocks at least 2 events prior OR start to help locate him/her.  We hate to see swimmers miss their races.  While we will have workers help direct the 10 and unders, the 11 and ups are expected to get to the blocks on their own.  Even with all our workers occasionally we can't find a younger swimmer or someone gets missed.  Please help your swimmer develop a sense of responsibility and independence in getting his or herself to the blocks in plenty of time. And please help us get your younger swimmer to the blocks if you are not working the meet. This helps meets run better and allows swimmers to learn to be independent.  They swim so hard all week and we hate for them to miss any races!

We will keep our relay protocol from last year.  It worked great.  Basically, a relay card will be given to 1 parent of the 4 swimmers at the meet.  That parent will get his/her child and the other 3 for the relay to the blocks on time.  We didn't have any relay problems last year so please help us if you are given a relay card and asked to keep a relay group together in waiting.

Please email us should you have any further questions.

Sunday swim practice continues every week from 4-5 pm at SwimAtlanta.  Coach Debbie says practice is going great and the team is looking good!  She is so excited to welcome the new Rays to the pool.  We look forward to school getting out and daily practice at our pool.

Don't forget the summer practice schedule is as follows starting Thursday, May 27:

M, Tu, Wed, Fri,  8:30-9:30, 9:30-10:30, 10:30-11:15
Thurs 8:30-9:30, entire team, relay practice
Saturday all groups 1 hour earlier : 7:30-8:30, 8:30-9:30, 9:30-10:15

GO STINGRAYS!!!!!

Sunday Mar 21,

Dear Stingrays,

Just a reminder that suit-sizing is next Saturday the 27th!  Check out the website for all details.  Remember if you cannot attend this event and your swimmer needs a new suit you will have to go to Kastaway to order and pick up your suit.  Suit sizing will take place in the basement of the clubhouse due to renovations.  Please walk around the clubhouse as if you were going to the pool and enter from there.

The front gate WILL be open so a code will not be necessary.  We will also have spirit wear samples to show you for ordering.  Once again our t-shirt was designed by Coach Debbie!  Remember all swimmers get a t-shirt with their registration fee but adult and sibling t-shirts are a great way to support your Stingrays.  Also, having as many parents as possible in our Stingray attire is VERY helpful at meets for the swimmers to know who to go to if they need help with anything (it helps the adults too).  Show your Stingray support and consider purchasing spirit wear this season!!!  Thanks so much to Lori Van Matre and Debbie Kohne for handling attire this season.

If you have not done so please register through our website at www.stonebrierstingrays.com.  Registration is going very well but the quicker we get registration complete the sooner we can move on to volunteer requests.  You must register with us and NASA league as last year.  See website registration for detailed instructions.  Register asap to avoid late fees. Don't forget to send any new swimmers our way through this email.  We will check availability and give them a registration code for registering online.

Finally, thanks again so much to Diana Goodwin for running the website and online registration....you're the best Diana!!!!!!

See you next Saturday!

GO STINGRAYS!!!

Sunday Mar 14,

Dear Stingrays,

Registration is well under way!  Welcome back to all our Stingrays and please send us any new friends that want to join the team so we can check for availability.  We are constantly updating the website and hope you find it user friendly.  Visit us at www.stonebrierstingrays.com.  If you have not done so already please register online with us and then NASA!!!  We need to have registration complete by April 1st so we can move forward with volunteer requests for meets.  In a few weeks we will send a list of all the registrations we have so you can confirm your reservation.  We will do this prior to any late fees.

Click for the sponsorship letter for 2010.  We ask that you carefully consider being a sponsor this year.  Our team does have to purchase some new equipment and is only funded by donations and swim fees from swimmers.  If you know anyone who would like to be a sponsor please forward their information to us.

Again, thanks to Howard Fuller for coordinating this again for 2010.  Each donation is very much appreciated and will go towards team use only including equipment and decreasing the cost of our banquet in August.

GO STINGRAYS!!!!

Wednesday Feb 24,

Dear Stingrays,

Welcome to 2010 season!  Swim team is fast approaching and we look forward to another fun summer season!  We are planning to start registration online next week on our website at www.stonebrierstingrays.com.  We apologize for the delay but are trying to do everything by our website this year and it takes a while to make the changes and input everything.  Thanks so much for your patience. Once registration opens you have until April 1st to register before late fees apply. We wanted to go ahead and send the 2010 information and dates to you for planning purposes.  Also, if you have friends that would like to join our team this year please have them email us at stonebrierswimteam@hotmail.com. Thanks again for your patience and for choosing to swim with the Stingrays.  Coach Debbie Carey will be back to lead us through another great summer of swimming!  Watch your email next week for registration instructions.

Suit sizing/ordering is scheduled at the Clubhouse from 3-5 pm on Saturday, March 27th for new swimmers or any swimmer that needs a new suit.  We will also have a suit swap from 2:30-3 pm where you can bring in your old suit you have grown out of and try to swap it with another swimmer.  If your swimmer's suit from last year still fits he/she can wear it again, we are not changing the style.

To simplify things ALL FEES are included this year.  Your registration fee covers all coaching at meets, and 5 days per week during the summer season, the dual meets, the Georgia Tech Championship meet entry, a T-shirt for each swimmer, trophy/certificate at the banquet, and cap for swimmer.  The Kids for Kids charity meet is not included (since it is charity) and the pre-season practices are still $5 per swim in cash to Coach Debbie at Swim Atlanta (due to location). The fees for this summer are $187 for Stonebrier resident swimmers and $217 for non-resident swimmers.

Practice times have been pushed back 1 hour during the week this season.  YEAH to sleeping in a little later and swimming in a slightly warmer pool!!!  Practice starts on Friday, May 28th and run Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday in 3 groups determined by age and ability by Coach Debbie.  We do not practice Thursday due to meets.  Practices are from 8:30-9:30 for year-round swimmers and teens who can lap swim for the entire hour, 9:30-10:30 for ages 9 and up, working on technique, and 10:30-11:15 for all new swimmers and 8 and unders.  Please note the most instructive practice time is 10:30-11:15.  On Saturday the practice schedule is 1 hour earlier (the old times) due to the neighborhood pool opening earlier.  Thus, Saturday practices are 7:30-8:30, 8:30-9:30 and 9:30-10:15.  If you aren't sure what group your swimmer should practice in contact Coach Debbie by email or at a pre-season practice.
